I ventured online right away, and even so, I felt like I'd got the hang of the physics-based mechanics within a few minutes, and I was already on-par with the other competitors. However, once you get into the game itself, it's very easy to see why Gang Beasts consistently sits among the most popular Xbox titles on the Microsoft Store. I downloaded it, booted it up, and was greeted with (in all honesty) a very barebones menu system that doesn't make a whole lot of sense and is very light on fancy presentation elements. The are notable exceptions like Overcooked! 2 and Golf With Your Friends, but with the addition of Gang Beasts, it feels like the service has very consciously bolstered its party game lineup.ĭespite having an interest in the game ever since it first released, I'd never actually played Gang Beasts until it arrived on Game Pass last week. Once all the players have joined and the game mode has been finalized, players can expect to launch into an invite-only session in Gang Beasts. It's no secret that despite its incredible library, Xbox Game Pass has been somewhat starved of great party games throughout its lifespan thus far. It is also obvious when another player successfully joins because their character will appear near the bottom of the screen as well. Directly under the lobby status, players will also see the respective key for inviting other players. On the other hand, setting the lobby to public will cause the lobby to undergo matchmaking and create an online public game that anyone can join into. In the case of Gang Beasts, setting the lobby to custom is akin to setting the match to "friends only" and allows the host to customize aspects of the game. On the other hand, if it says " online" in the right corner, then the opposite is true. If it says " Custom" in the right corner, that actually means that the lobby is currently public. From there, players should be able to see what the status of their lobby is and which key will change it. The type of lobby in Gang Beasts can be checked by glancing towards the top right corner of the screen. However, players should first take note of whether they have created a public lobby or a custom lobby. After confirming their color and skin, players can begin inviting others to their lobby. Then, a new screen appears which shows the player's character at the bottom. First, select the "Online" option from the main menu. The steps to setting up a private lobby are simple, but not very intuitive. For players looking to set up a private match to invite friends playing online, stay tuned to learn exactly how. After, or while all the players are joining, the host can set up the game mode and the desired map, then the next step is to simply start the game. On console, secondary controllers will likely have to be linked to separate or guest profiles. From there, players can have their friends join simply by connecting other controllers to the match. If players are looking to set up a lobby to play with friends on one shared system, then they will have to select the "local" option from the main menu. However, it is important for players who don’t want to play with random players to know how to set up a private lobby or game. Being a somewhat party game, Gang Beasts is the perfect game to enjoy with friends.
